For the first year of my practice, I offered a sliding scale for clients. Beginning on May 1st, I will be switching over to the set prices detailed below:
First time client (90-minute session)
$90
60 minutes
$80
90 minutes
$120
120 minutes
$150
why the pricing change?
When I opened my practice, it was after a year of some not-insignificant atrophy of the skills I had developed right before the pandemic began. This is my first time ever running my own business, in a career field I had no experience in, and I intentionally set prices at a lower end to try and make it as accessible as possible to everyone emerging from a year of isolation, uncertainty, and trauma. This has also given me the opportunity to get an idea of what my working costs are, how many clients I can support on a regular basis, and what kinds of sessions y’all are interested in!
Based on this data and client feedback, some trends that are super apparent:
I love working in longer sessions
90 minutes are my jam, and I love getting to do 120 minute sessions. The work that I do tends to be fairly slow, and these longer sessions give myself and the client the opportunity to really get into the good stuff. To try and entice y’all into the extra table time, longer sessions are cheaper per minute.
I love getting to gift clients
Last year I gifted $5,222.50 of table time to clients through discounts and trades, which is a little over half of what I made total last year. Gifting is my love language, and it’s important to me that I’m able to continue to offer this work in a way that I feel is supportive to my community (who have so generously supported me over the last year). In order to make that sustainable and consistent, I’m creating more structure around discounts and pricing. Starting in May, you’ll see:
Maintaining a built-in discount for a 90 minute session for new clients
10% discount on every session to any clients working in healthcare, education, or the service industry <3
20% discount for massages on the week of your birthday
Sliding scales and tips are a confusing combo
Having spent most of my life at the poverty line, I am always going to have an appreciation for programs with a sliding scale. However, I’ve gotten a lot of feedback from clients that having a static number would be easier to navigate, and after spending 3 days on taxes and finances I have to agree with you all!
